Convrse.pro Is Built On Real Challenges In VR Optimization: Amal Joy from Maersk Training Verifies
Everyone has seen what’s possible - Apple, once again, has set the standards high and we are all expected to play catch up but Innovation thrives when horizons are broadened and big players have historically grown markets. all of us VR enthusiasts have the best chance in history to make this work.
Where is VR right now?
VR is the flavor of the season - we can all thank Apple and Tim Cook for it. But those of us trying to create a space for VR from before Apple Vision Pro know what a tremendous opportunity and responsibility it is to be suddenly discovered, and be expected to deliver hyper-realistic experiences. Everyone has seen what’s possible - Apple, once again, has set the standards high and we are all expected to play catch up.
That’s not a bad thing.
Innovation thrives when horizons are broadened and big players have historically grown markets. Apple and Samsung rivalry has only benefitted mobile users. And even Apple still only has about 27.84% of the mobile market share (their bread and butter), followed by Samsung (23.75%) and Xiomi (11.74%), a relatively younger entrant. Meta has made a defining path for all immersive tech, including for Apple.
So, all of us VR enthusiasts have the best chance in history to make this work. But..
Most of us can’t afford to take a hit of billions of dollars in money or build teams of hundreds in stealth for years (look at the date of that article) before we present an era-defining product. Most of us try, learn, fail, get-up and repeat.
All we have is small infrastructure builders like us, those creative geniuses obsessed about solving big problems with small money. Those epic balancers who can innovate and monetize before it makes sense for a few and eventually start making sense for just about everyone.
I share my learnings from an interaction with one such ecosystem enabler.
Best Workflow for Creating VR Training Content - My Conversation with Amal Joy, Product Owner - Maersk Training
Amal and I had the opportunity to delve deeper into the specific challenge of VR content optimization and how it impacts small teams like Amal’s. We also discussed Convrse.pro, the world’s smartest 3D optimizer, as a potential solution. Here's what Amal had to say about his experience with Convrse.pro
Maersk Training is a global training provider focused on improving safety and operational performance while delivering a better learning experience.
My Top Learnings from Conversation with Amal
- Most VR service providers have moved on from the use of traditional simulators for creating training content as they are complex, heavy and non-portable. AR/ VR headsets are the preferred way to go but suffer from challenges like lags and stutters while displaying high poly content.
- On the other hand, there is a growing demand for hyper realistic experiences (more polygons) that can lead to better immersion without adding to cognitive load. This contradiction is at the heart of service providers seeking out 3D content optimizers that can optimize without compromising the mesh quality.
- Development has moved in-house but the in-house teams are taking at least a couple of months to ship experiences. There is a lot of iteration and manual work that happens towards making an experience fit for deployment. Amal hopes to bring this TAT down by month to scale and improve profitability
- Amal mentioned that leadership at VR companies is pushing to adopt AI tools that scale production without impacting quality. Amal tried tools like Luma, Genie, DreamQuotient but they didn’t work. He found that Convrse.pro delivered the best results, also preserving the sanctity of the models.
- The toolkit used by Amal’s team is Blender and Maya for design, Unity for environments and VR interaction.
How have we built Convrse.pro around these challenges?
My team and I have spoken to over 70 product leaders, CEOs and other C-suite executives in just the VR space. We understand that the scale and size of 3D content has changed massively in the past few years. Now creators have to think about deployment platforms at the same time that they think about modeling software if not before.
The standard methods of optimizing content are heavily manual, while being dumb and generic. They just don’t belong in a world where we have Apple Vision Pro.
Convrse.pro is different. We have built it intelligently for the creators. We have spoken to hundreds of creators and evaluated thousands of workflows before automating everything that a 3D creator does to make their content deliver on performance, speed and quality. I want to talk about top features that make Convrse.pro different:
Graph Neural Network Models: Automates shape preservation by building vertex level control in meshes. This allows us to define varying weights for different triangles, and retain specifically the most important ones
Homogenized Mesh Density: When you optimize a scene with convrse, it will automatically optimize the densest meshes the most, and will affect the low poly items the least, yet hitting the target triangle count.
Heatmap & Batch Selection: Provides a heatmap view showing mesh density distribution, allowing users to identify and optimize high-density batches separately without affecting the rest of the scene.
Similar Geometry Identification: Automatically compares meshes based on geometry, allowing users to identify and optimize replicated components collectively, reducing overall triangle count.
Surface Collision Detection: Identifies contact surfaces and merges them together to eliminate overlapping triangles, reducing polycount and optimizing scene geometry efficiently.
